To whom it may concern:
I have been a business person for over 34 years and I have worked with literally hundreds of different individuals with different personalities over that time. Please let me tell you a story.
Our home had been approved for repair to damage to our roof, siding, and a downspout by our insurance company. Our entire neighborhood had been hit by the same hailstorm so there were a large number of contractors canvassing our neighborhood for business. I had narrowed my consideration to two contractors.
One Saturday night, my wife and I returned home from dinner and my son made a special effort to tell that a man had come to the door and left me a folder. It appeared to be important to my son I asked him about the man. I asked questions about him like how he was dressed? Was he nice to you? Most importantly, I asked did he treat you with kindness and respect even though you were a teenager? My son told me that he had.
I was impressed so I looked at the brochure. It was from Toubl Contractors so the next Monday; I called the man listed on the business card, Scott Whalen. Scott coincidently was in the neighborhood so we agreed upon a time at which he would come by to examine our home. After we got off the phone I asked myself why I had done this after already narrowing my selection of two contractors.
Scott arrived early and began to examine my home. He concurred with the insurance adjuster’s assessment except he told me he thought that all of my gutters and downspouts had sustained damage and he had a way of verifying this. Scott was well dressed, kind, respectful and a gentleman. I knew there was something special about Scott.
I told him the names of the other two individual firms I was considering. He acknowledge them both he never degraded them. That was most impressive to me for I felt that many contractors would have downgraded their competitors to get a job. What a gentleman I thought! I was impressed by the “specialness of Scott” so I asked him to give us an estimate. I was glad that I call Scott Whalen.
Scott brought another individual from his firm to conduct the estimate work and sure enough, his assessment indicated that our gutters and downspouts had been damaged and that they needed to be replaced. The insurance company concurred with Scott’s assessment and later authorized their replacement. Scott went to work on our behalf and well good.
Scott was different than the other contractors or contractor’s representatives I had dealt with. He partnered with me and had a way of making me feel that my claim was also his claim. He truly owned my situation and cared. Their estimate/firm price came in within the scope of the insurance company’s approved payment amount so I signed with Toubl Contractors and because of the way in which Scott Whalen had treated me.
Toubl began their work and throughout the project, Scott continued to act as if our claim was his claim. He quickly and gladly responded to every concern that my wife or I had about the quality of work that the individual specialist, (the siders, roofers, the gutter installers) had done. He never quit caring! I never felt abandoned by this company’s commitment to quality due to the caring of Scott Whalen.
He worked with us every step of the way and was always available to answer any question or respond to any concerns which arose. I feel it is also important to note that his response was very timely if not immediate and I that he was very busy with all the jobs he was working on.
I also feel that is important to make comment about how Scott treated my wife when she had questions. He always treated her with the utmost of dignity and respect; just as he treated me. He was never condescending or chauvinistic in dealing with my wife. This was very important to me.
Our work is now done and I think back to the night that my son had announced that a man left a brochure and the outcome of my first interaction with Scott Whalen.
What a good decision I was fortunate to have made in choosing Scott Whalen to work with!
I will be happy to answer any questions or discuss any concerns which you might have about dealing with Scott Whalen. I am sure that any company which Scott has chosen to work with will be as fortunate to have him and as good as Toubl Contractors.
It is also important for me to tell you that I would have no reservations in dealing with Scott Whalen again for a future storm damage claim or a regular job in which I needed to have extra work done. In fact, largely to Scott’s work ethic, I did have Scott’s firm provide me with some work in addition to the storm work which needed to be done and they did a fine job with that as well.
I can’t give Scott a high enough reference for he has certainly earned my respect, trust and gratitude.
Thank you for your time,
Sincerely,
Dan G. Sackash
